Park Historian, Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone was an OLD tourist destination - first incentive for tourist travel in the west
Est. as the first National Park in 1872
Journalists soon discovered it - became a "world class wonder"
Railroad 1883 - Northern Pacific Railroad - FIRST Railroad to a tourist destination
By 1900 it was a "grand tourist success" - Europeans even travelled there
Car 1917 - it was the last National Park to accept cars - under control of the US Army
